Too Much to Do

Too much to do

It’s my daughter’s birthday today and as I sit here and think back through the years, I realize I may have missed too many magic moments by being too busy!

She is eleven today, I remember her still as a chubby cheeked little three-year-old with blonde ringlets, pottering around the house. It seems like only yesterday.

I had another epiphany a few months ago, when I realized my fifteen-year-old daughter was no longer the ten-year-old tree climber I remembered. Nature girl, as she used to call herself. I wept.

I realized I’d let too much time slip by already, too many magic moments lost forever. I decided I would do what I could to make up for all those lost moments that slipped through my fingers.

I am a very busy person by nature, always on the go, always creating, I like to get things done! But I realized that in this moment, none of that matters, if I miss this time with my children, it will be gone forever… Too much time has passed already!

Too much to doDon’t let your ‘to do list’ get in the way of the ones you love today.

What are some of the ways, you have put your loved ones near the top of your to do list? Or what will you do now, to show them how much you care?

I’d love to hear from you, share your stories, suggestions and ideas in the comment box below!

I had that same epiphany years ago when my kids were hitting their teens. I travel a lot and miss out on quite a bit. But I take time now to connect. I see it as not about quantity but quality.

I totally agree, when we make the time we do spend with our children really count, we create memories that last a lifetime. The memories we create today may even get passed down to future generations.

Ahh, the old maxim, Tempus fugit…time flies. Yes, I have had such a revelation several times. My children are ages 29, 26, 24 & 19. I think the only thing we really have is the here and now. The rest is just beyond our grasp in a memory, an old song, the smell of bread baking in the kitchen, or under glass inside a frame, smiling faces from long ago. Carpe Diem!

Yes Kim, you are so right, all we really have is this moment. If we do let precious time slip past, there’s no point dwelling on what we should’ve done or could’ve done, but take these feelings and use them as rocket fuel to make the here and now count. Thanks so much for sharing!
    Carpe Diem!

This made me cry! I can relate as I look at my four daughters. One (my second oldest) has a birthday around the corner, and it is difficult to imagine fourteen years have gone by since she first arrived. I try to carve out time for them each day, time to give them my undivided attention. But lately I feel like I’ve been pulled in too many directions. This is a good reminder to rein it in and remember what is important.

Kat I’m so glad that you enjoyed the post and that it struck a cord with you. Sometimes it is so easy to get caught up and busy, forgetting to take care of what matters most. What I do love is that you try and carve out time for them everyday and give them your undivided attention. I am sure they love that time with their mom.
